Secure Residential Support Worker

About the role

Lansdowne Secure Children's home is one of only 14 in England & Wales and is a modern, state of the art building with excellent and diverse facilities. We put children at the heart of everything we do and are looking for part time support workers to join our excellent care team.

You'll work as part of a dedicated, supportive team, and will be responsible for providing the day-to-day safe and secure care of the children at Lansdowne. Keeping the children engaged and occupied, you'll encourage and participate in fun, enriching activities with the young people, such as sports, cooking, arts and crafts and many more.

This role involves working between 18-24 hours a week and being able to sleep in at the home 3-4 nights a week. You get a quiet, comfortable room to yourself and extra money for this. You would be on call during the night should your assistance be required. The hours would be 6-10pm, sleep in and then 7-9am. We can be slightly flexible with these hours if required. We would also be interested in speaking with anyone who wants part time work over the weekends.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing day-to-day safe and secure care of the children at Lansdowne
  • Managing difficult conversations, managing conflict and challenging poor behaviour
  • Encouraging and participating in fun, enriching activities with young people
  • Leading from the floor when needed and taking initiative
  • Following safeguarding procedures and escalating concerns appropriately

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be able to manage difficult conversations, manage conflict and challenge poor behaviour and/or practice
  • Hold strong, consistent boundaries with young people and not be afraid to challenge poor behaviour
  • Understand how trauma affects behaviour and use that understanding in everyday interactions
  • Be able to lead from the floor when needed, take initiative and know when to escalate concerns
  • Have communication skills with the ability to offer clear assertive direction and support to children to ensure they feel safe
  • Know how to follow safeguarding procedures
