Posted 16th Jun, 2026

About the role

Blanche Nevile School is a well-known and highly regarded school for Deaf students, with a history dating back to 1895. This part-time post — 19.5 hours per week, term time only — covers both the Primary site (co-located with Highgate Primary) and the Secondary site (co-located with Fortismere School), working across an innovative and successful provision for deaf children aged 3 to 16.

The school offers 'The Best of Both Worlds': British Sign Language (BSL) and English, small class specialist teaching, and high quality inclusion. A skilled team of deaf and hearing staff shares a commitment to a child-centred sign bilingual approach.

The role involves planning, delivering, and assessing a high-quality BSL curriculum up to Level 4 or higher for deaf and hearing pupils, parents, and staff. This sits alongside delivering Deaf Studies lessons for learners in line with the Deaf Studies Curriculum.

Availability to work up to 6.00pm on some evenings is required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning, delivering, and formally assessing BSL across a range of levels and age groups.
  • Delivering Deaf Studies lessons in line with the school's Deaf Studies Curriculum.
  • Working collaboratively as part of a team of deaf and hearing staff across both school sites.
  • Using formal assessments, including DCAL (Deafness, Cognition and Language Research Centre) assessment.
  • Communicating effectively with deaf and hearing learners, families, and professionals.

Visits are warmly welcomed by appointment. Tour dates with the Co-Headteachers or Deputy Headteacher are available by contacting the school on 020 8442 2750 or emailing sbm@blanchenevile.org.uk. In line with safeguarding practices, CVs cannot be accepted. Click Apply Now to discover more about submitting a formal application.
