Residential Childcare Practitioner

Posted 2nd Nov, 2026

About the role

This is a full-time, permanent position based at one of East Sussex County Council's children's homes in Seaford, working with children and young people who often have complex needs. The role supports children's development and wellbeing, and involves working with their families as well as the wider care team.

As a Residential Childcare Practitioner, you will contribute to the day-to-day lives of some of the most vulnerable children in East Sussex. There is also scope to take a lead on specialist areas and projects — healthy eating is one example — where you can drive improvements across the service. The salary range of £31,077 to £35,289 per annum includes two weekend working increments, reflecting the pattern of work across the week.

This role includes:

  • Supporting children's development and wellbeing on a day-to-day basis
  • Working with children's families as part of an integrated childcare team
  • Maintaining professional standards including dignity, respect, and confidentiality at all times
  • Leading on specialist areas or projects that support service-wide improvements
  • Taking on additional responsibilities if you hold a Level 3 qualification in Residential Childcare or equivalent, with eligibility to progress to Single Status 8

To apply, upload your CV and a Supporting Statement via the Apply Now button. The Supporting Statement is used for shortlisting, so address how you meet all the criteria in the person specification, drawing on relevant work or life experience, education, or personal interests. Interviews will take place in person in Eastbourne within two weeks of the closing date. For an informal discussion about the role, contact Natalie Dardashti at natalie.dardashti@eastsussex.gov.uk.
