About the role

Westminster House provides specialist residential care for children with complex needs, including learning disabilities and behaviours that may challenge. As a Residential Worker, you'll deliver high-quality, person-centred care that promotes communication, independence and emotional regulation.

The team focuses on each child's safety, development and well-being through structured routines, tailored care and consistent support. You'll work closely with colleagues and partner agencies to ensure every child receives the right support at the right time, helping them build confidence and life skills.

This role works on a two-week rota covering a mix of weekday and weekend shifts. Morning shifts run from 7am to 2pm and afternoon shifts from 2.30pm to 9.30pm. There are no sleep-in or waking night duties. Contracted hours are 25 per week, and the salary is stated pro rata.

This role includes:

  • Providing day-to-day care for children with learning disabilities, following individual care plans and promoting their well-being
  • Supporting children through educational, social and leisure activities that build confidence, independence and life skills
  • Communicating effectively using verbal and non-verbal methods, including specialist communication tools where needed
  • Working with multi-agency colleagues to support care planning, safeguarding and positive outcomes for children
  • Maintaining accurate and timely written records and contributing to meetings, reviews and reports

About You

Westminster House is looking for someone with a caring and resilient approach who can build positive relationships with children, their families, and colleagues. You'll need to be comfortable working within structured routines and adapting your communication style to meet the individual needs of the children you support.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a Level 3 Diploma in Children's and Young People's Workforce, or be willing to begin working towards it within three months of appointment
  • Have experience of working with children or young people, or within a care or learning disability setting
  • Understand, or be willing to learn about, the communication needs of children with learning disabilities
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families and colleagues
  • Be able to communicate clearly in spoken English to support children, families and colleagues
  • Bring a calm, resilient approach when managing and de-escalating behaviours that may challenge
  • Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle, including insurance cover for business use (evidence of both will be required before an appointment can be confirmed)
